The best defense is offense. When possible, my response to any criminal charge is a relentless attack on the government.
Far too many lawyers try to obtain success for their clients by begging the government for deals. In 2023, 92 percent of felony cases in Virginia circuit courts were resolved by guilty pleas, and only 2.3 percent were resolved by jury trials. It gets worse in federal court; in the Eastern District of Virginia in 2023, 94.1 percent of cases were resolved by guilty pleas, and only 5.9 percent of cases were resolved by trials.
Negotiation skills are important, especially in cases where my clients have talked to law enforcement, but I NEVER take cases with the goal of reaching cooperation deals. Success for the vast majority of my clients is more attainable when I attack every charge and stand ready to convince a jury that my clients are not guilty.
I attack the government whenever it seeks to threaten the liberty of any of my clients. Through careful evaluation, relentless preparation, and clever trial tactics, I devise ways for my clients to outfight the government.
My record speaks for itself.
